I know a woman who is relentlessly, ridiculously optimistic. Everything is always for the best.
Broken arm: “at least I did not break the other!” Sick parents, lost jobs: “it could be so much worse – it could all happen at once.” Now that it is all happening at the same time? “Well, at least that way we get all the bad things done at once and can move on.”
Today she and her whole family came down with Swine Flu. “So much better to get this new strain of virus now to build up immunity. Who is to say what next year’s strain will be like?”
I am not sure what she would say about GM, but let me imagine.
Better for Chrysler and GM to fail in one year so we cannot pretend we have an automotive industry in the US and can start building up other industries. Better to have our Chrysler cars serviced by Fiat dealers – they got so used to fixing finicky cars that they are pros by now and should do a great job.
Any other suggestions for absurd optimism?
I’ll also take absurd pessimism, too.
